SportMedBC and USANA Health Sciences Unveil a Major Partnership
to Support Canada’s High-Performance Athletes
Vancouver, BC – SportMedBC, a focal point for sport medicine and science within the
Canadian sport system, and USANA Health Sciences, a leading provider of nutritional
products, today announces a partnership that will provide high-performance athletes with
a program to be called Total Sport Nutrition (TSN).
This innovative partnership responds to the nutritional needs of athletes striving to
achieve optimal sport performance. The program will provide essential support and
direction for athletes and coaches in all areas of sport nutrition.
“We are delighted to have USANA Health Sciences join us in the creation and delivery
of SportMedBC’s Total Sport Nutrition program,” said Dr. David Cox, Chair of
SportMedBC. “A glaring weakness in our Canadian high-performance support program
has been in the area of sport nutrition. An athlete’s performance depends on numerous
factors. Credible nutritional advice is a key element of any comprehensive training
program and the foundation for long-term health.”
SportMedBC has hired Registered Dietitian, Dallas Parsons on a full- time basis to help
develop and oversee the Total Sport Nutrition program. Dallas will be the focal point for
the gathering and dissemination of information that will provide ongoing support to
individual athletes and training groups. “I want athletes to be able to make informed
choices with respect to their nutritional needs that I believe will help to optimize their
athletic performance,” says Parsons. “I am excited to have the opportunity to be a part of
such an innovative and progressive endeavor. ”
“As an athlete, I am thrilled about this announcement,” said two-time Olympic triathlete
Jill Savage. “In the past, athletes had few choices but to rely on incomplete and
contradictory information to meet their individual health and nutritional needs.”
Guidance and support in the area of nutrition is an important piece of the highperformance
puzzle that has been missing for far too long. The Total Sport Nutrition
program will send a clear message to Canada’s athletes that this will no longer be the
case; they will now have access to leading edge, nutritional information and support.”
“Today’s announcement brings together two organizations who strive to, and have the
reputation of being the best in their respective fields,” said Lynda Cannell, SportMedBC
President and CEO. “Alliances such as this send a message to the Canadian sport system,
the general public, and to the business community at large that we can and must do more
to support our high-performance athletes.” As CEO of SportMedBC, I am proud today to
begin moving this process forward with USANA Health Sciences.”
